Educate yourself about self-storage

In most cases, it is the renter of the self storage units who is in responsible for holding the lock and key to the unit, and the owners of the self storage facility are not able to access the contents within. This means that the property is largely free from theft and damage, particularly in reputable facilities. There are also many self storage facilities that offer computer control of their operations complete with security cameras that greatly increase security. In a sense, it is almost like leaving your possessions at home, although it is of course much safer in a self storage facility. Some facilities are in fact quite advanced, with climate control and cold self storage features provided.
