This area is not suited for formal entertaining anyway. You can keep a breakfast nook set that has simple styling cleaner a lot easier than you can one that has ornate carvings. You can find good set that is made out of either metal or wood. One made from wood is nice because you can always change the way it looks with a new layer of paint later on. Most people prefer light colors but dark wood is also popular.
